Renalis Works with University Hospitals for Proof of Concept Study
March 17, 2021
Cleveland, OH - Renalis today announces it will collaborate with University Hospitals (UH) to conduct a proof of concept study for a digital therapeutic treating overactive bladder (OAB).
Renalis’ software platform will be designed initially for persons assigned female at birth and will deliver individualized elements of behavioral therapy traditionally delivered in person by a pelvic floor physical therapist or nurse practitioner. In today’s healthcare environment of remote care, Renalis believes the addition of its innovation will dramatically enhance patient experiences and outcomes while reducing the administrative burden on the healthcare staff, and ultimately reducing costs. The company is planning to seek FDA approval as a software as a medical device.
Spearheading the team from the Urology Institute is Dr. David Sheyn, Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, University Hospitals Urology Institute. “The treatment of OAB is limited by our lack of understanding of the many etiologies that can lead to this condition and lack of personalized treatment. Renalis’ technology could potentially create an individualized treatment paradigm to improve our clinical outcomes, and more importantly, the patient experience,” said Dr. Sheyn.
“University Hospitals is the perfect health system for our first product offering,” said Missy Lavender, Renalis CEO & Founder. “Dr. Sheyn brings his years of experience in biomedical engineering and deep interest in novel solutions for chronic conditions like OAB and adds clinical expertise to this important validating study of our platform. We look forward to this first step in what we believe will be a long and fruitful collaboration,” she added.
Renalis and UH expect to start recruiting patients in the second quarter of 2021.
